yeah I thought the same thing about the ice cave but ice always looks fake onscreen.
Sheri I agree Jack had some classsic moments. The DC pic was priceless. That's the kind of thing newbies don't catch.

The loose ends were not tied up to my satisfaction, as far as Rambaldi is concerned. But the personal stuff worked pretty well. Did not buy that Tom would off himself, but that's just me. He has had ample op to do that in the past....why did he did he do that now?

Did anybody notice when Syd said "This is what we've been waiting for", she looked like the picture on page 47, hair in a bun and turn slightly sideways?

I thought about Tom too but I looked back and it looked like he kept spraying the timer even with less than 60 seconds until everyone was out, because once Jack gave the OK it was only a few more seconds left. I guess he knew at that point it was too late but they should have made that clear. I dont think he was suicidal. Shoot, he had the thing with Rachel going, reason enough to live for me!

Got up early this morning with a backache that's been nagging me these past few days, and as I was preparing my bowl of oatmeal and cup of green tea my mind wandered to the finale. I started feeling a little emotionally manipulated. First, the fact that Irina was shown as having no redeeming qualities after we were made to believe that within that hard-bodied assassin lay a warm beating heart from whose depths Irina had once declared that her love for her family was not a lie, yada yada. Second, that Jack had to die when he was minutes away from help...and seeing his beloved daughter again. He could have sealed the Rambaldi....er, bunker.....by simply tossing the explosives down there. If he had the strength to go all 200 feet to where Sloane was (and still have plenty of breath to speak clearly to Sloane), then he had the strength to wait for help and possibly recover, IMO. So, was all that so the writers could give Jack a wonderful 'screw you' speech? I mean, if I were going to write off Jack (and I would have for dramatic irony in the Jack/Syd relationship), I would have done it in a fashion that showed a direct correlation between his actions and saving Sydney. Like taking a bullet for her, running into a building to try to disarm an explosive that he thought would take her life, etc. (Or, most deliciously, having the Bristow parents shoot it out in The Ultimate Dysfunctional Family Smackdown). But Syd was long gone by this time. Out of immediate danger. Yes, having a final confrontation between the men was cool and all, but in retrospect it seemed a little contrived. I'll give a little slack to the writers that had 5 episode taken away from them at the end of the season, but still.... Oh and... Third, would Sloane really stay buried there for all time? Wouldn't the people who came to recover Jack also have to see if Jack were alive down there and so forth? Would they have simply arrived on the scene, said to themselves "Oh, Jack's not here. Guess we'll just go" and high-tail it out of there? Rationally, they would have sought him out, even to the point of digging through rubble to see if he were down in there. Dang it, that's what I would have done anyway! haha! Finally, and very irritating to me as a writer: Who the heck packed the special puzzle for Isabelle? Had Syd found it and kept it for some twisted sentimental reason? And if so ('cause it's possible that she did keep it), would she really have let her daughter come near that thing?? Maybe I am in the anger phase of grief. Maybe I am ticked off that 'Jack' will not have any part of any hypothetical movie/reunion show in the future (neither of which will probably happen anyway), or the fact that I will now have to watch Victor in a courtroom drama (I LOATHE courtroom dramas!). Any thoughts from you guys this morning? GO MAVS!<--- still high from that victory

Hey Sheri,
You know, I had the same thought myself about Jack later after reflecting on it and watching it again. First, unless someone does find Sloane, they will not know what happened with Jack. They wil wonder why he went down there and blew himself up. Of course, you could argue that the cave in was massive and they found Jack's remains without finding the "pocket" Sloane was in. Well, Alias has had bigger plot holes, and maybe Garber wanted a big death scene or a cool sendoff, which he got. Could this be his stab at an Emmy win? Like you, I wished he had gone out taking down Irina, but that might be more trauma that the writers didnt want to put Syd thru. (Why start now, I say) This way, Irina died not at Syd's hands, but because if her own greed and shortcomings, which is fitting.
And, may I say, Giacchino's music for this episode was SUPERB.
Later everyone,
Vic

Just had another thought, maybe there will be a few more answers in the DVD's extras. You know "Deleted Scenes" or maybe even an alternative ending???
