Seeing Will was great, seeing the new baby (who, of course, looked 3 months rather than 4 weeks old) was terrific, and Anna E. was pretty kickin' too.....so how come I was still not that impressed with last night's episode overall?
I kept thinking that the writing often seemed forced, and almost amateurish. Like they were trying to make things happen---namely emotions---that just weren't happening. Like bad fanfiction in some scenes. I have noticed that the writers have that problem from time to time. (I'll need to go back and see if there are specific credited writers at fault.)
I really wanted the episode to work, seeing as how Bradley Cooper was kind enough to show up and all. I have missed him terribly these last coupla years. But the lines they gave him when he was talking about how much Will cared for Syd, and how much she meant to everyone, sounded flat and corny. At one point they were so over-the-top, I thought he was talking to Jesus instead of Sydney. "You save the world everyday and never ask for anything...". Okay, it does seem that way in the world of Alias sometimes, but I thought it was still a bit much.
Some good things: Bradley just being there, the tongue 'n' cheek retorts between Sydney and Anna (reeeer hissss), and the babysitters (I can't say that scene was too weird....I once had two Marines watch my kids .
There was a lot of nice humor.....Will bringing up his perilous situation with the implanted bomb as the team talks calmly about options: vintage Will. The innocent "Who's Rambaldi?" line.....precious! And Jack's line about Bristow women and sharp objects was cute. (Although, this man is usually so sure-handed in field work, his dropping the knives did not work for me. I would have just had the scene play out with Syd walking in on him and asking him why he was putting the knives away, etc. But that's just me. ;D I know that this man has never had a grandchild before---that we know of---but really....)
Anyway....what are your thoughts?
